Chapter Two: A Moment of Terror
Ella and Lily hurriedly walked toward the professor's office, their minds filled with questions. The corridors of London University exuded a serene yet solemn atmosphere, with sunlight streaming through tall windows, casting patches of light on the ancient stone floor. Ella felt a mix of anxiety and anticipation; she couldn’t stop thinking about the strange sensations brought on by that mysterious book, while also looking forward to the questions she would ask the professor.
Lily closely followed Ella, her face etched with unease. "Ella, do you really think the professor can explain the strange phenomena of that book?" she whispered.
Ella furrowed her brows slightly, replying, "I'm not sure, but the professor is an expert in this area. Maybe he can give us some clues."
As they turned a corner, the professor's office came into view. However, as they approached the door, an ominous feeling washed over them. The door was ajar, and inside was eerily silent. Ella's heart raced involuntarily, a bad premonition creeping in.
She gently pushed the door open, and the sight before her and Lily left them stunned. The professor lay on the floor, eyes closed, his face pale. His body was covered in wounds, blood staining his clothes and the surrounding floor.
"Professor!" Ella and Lily exclaimed in unison, rushing forward to check on him. But just then, a massive shadow leapt out from the corner of the office.
It was a monster, its body large and twisted, like something from a nightmare. Its skin was a dark hue, covered in sharp scales that glimmered with an eerie light in the sun. Its head resembled that of a giant lizard, with sharp teeth and red eyes that gleamed with malice. The monster's limbs were thick and powerful, ending in sharp claws that could easily tear through hard objects. Its tail was long and thick, like a giant whip, swinging through the air with a whooshing sound.
The monster let out a deep growl and lunged at Ella and Lily. They instinctively recoiled in fear, but the creature moved with lightning speed, closing in on them in an instant.
Filled with terror, Ella knew she couldn't back down. She tightly grasped Lily's hand, preparing to find a way to escape. However, the monster seemed intent on not giving them that chance. It opened its gaping maw and lunged toward them.
In that critical moment, Ella instinctively raised her hand to block the attack. Suddenly, a red light shot from her palm, striking the monster directly. It let out a pained roar, its body propelled backward by the red light, crashing heavily against the wall.
Ella and Lily were stunned, unable to believe their eyes. Ella looked at her hand, filled with confusion and fear. She didn’t understand where this power had come from or why she could wield it.
The monster climbed back to its feet, charging at them again. But this time, Ella felt no fear. She focused intently on the creature, her heart brimming with courage. She raised her hand once more, and an even more powerful beam of red light shot forth, enveloping the monster.
The creature struggled within the red glow, but its strength seemed no match for this mysterious force. Finally, it let out a desperate roar as its body gradually vanished within the light.
Ella and Lily stood frozen, gasping for breath. Their hearts were filled with shock and fear, unsure of what had just transpired. Ella looked at her hand again, her mind swirling with questions. She didn’t know why she possessed such power or what consequences it might bring.
At that moment, they heard the distant sound of police sirens. Ella realized that help would arrive soon. She and Lily decided to stay put, waiting for the police to investigate.
While waiting, Ella's mind was anything but calm. She recalled everything that had just happened, trying to find some clues. She thought of the mysterious book and the strange power she had felt in the library. She began to wonder if there was a connection between it all.
Lily felt uneasy as well. She clutched Ella's hand tightly, seeking comfort. "Ella, what is going on? What should we do?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Ella took a deep breath, trying to stay composed. "I don't know, Lily. But we must remain calm and wait for the police. Perhaps they can find some answers."
Soon, the police arrived at the scene. They quickly cordoned off the area and began their investigation. Ella and Lily were taken aside to answer questions. They recounted in detail how they had come to the professor's office and everything they had witnessed.
The officers were astonished by their account, yet they maintained a professional demeanor as they conducted their investigation. They examined the professor's body and collected evidence from the scene. At the same time, they asked Ella and Lily detailed questions to gather more information.
During the questioning, Ella felt a rising tide of doubt. She wondered if the police would be able to find the real culprit and what trouble her newfound power might bring. Concern for her safety and Lily's safety crept into her mind.
After several hours of investigation, the police had not uncovered many leads. They decided to take the professor's body for further examination and instructed Ella and Lily to remain vigilant, reporting any unusual occurrences immediately.
As they left the professor's office, a heavy weight hung over them as they walked through the campus. They were uncertain about what to do next and whether they would face further danger. Ella felt lost and afraid, yet she knew she had to confront it all with courage.
Back in their dorm, Ella and Lily sat on the bed in silence. Their hearts were heavy with worry about the future and confusion over what had just happened. Ella looked at her hand again, filled with questions. She didn’t understand why she had this power or what it might mean for her.
"Ella, what should we do?" Lily broke the silence, asking.
Ella took a deep breath and said, "I don't know, Lily. But we can't just sit here. We must continue searching for answers and uncover the truth behind all this."
Lily nodded. "Alright, but where do we start?"
Ella thought for a moment and said, "Let's start with that mysterious book. Maybe it can give us some clues."
Lily agreed. So, they decided to return to the library in search of the elusive book. They hoped to find some insights about magic and monsters within its pages to unravel the mystery.
However, when they returned to the library, they discovered that the book was gone. Ella and Lily searched everywhere but found no trace of it. Disappointment and confusion filled their hearts as they wondered why the book had vanished so suddenly.
"What do we do now?" Lily asked.
Ella furrowed her brow. "We can't give up. There might be other clues. We could look up some resources on medieval magic culture and see if we can find anything related to what happened today."
Lily nodded. "Alright, let's hurry."
Thus, Ella and Lily immersed themselves once more in the study of medieval magic culture, hoping their efforts would help them solve the mystery and uncover the truth.
